History and Holiday Spirit in a Special Wooden Box

The Washington Trophy Center is delighted to be a small part of this year’s 95th National Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Every year since 2004, the Washington Trophy Center has had the distinct honor of engraving for the National Park Service the aluminum plate attached to a one of a kind wooden box.  This special box is approximately 8 ¼ inches high and 7 ½ inches wide, and it holds the main switch used to light the National Community Christmas Tree.  The aluminum plate is 7 ¼ inches high and 6 ½ inches wide, and it is engraved with the President’s full name and the year.

The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is presented by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation. It is one of America’s oldest, and most memorable holiday traditions. Beginning with President Calvin Coolidge in 1923, each succeeding President of the United States has carried on this festive ritual.

The First Family will light the National Christmas Tree this evening in President’s Park.  In the spirit of this joyous event, the Washington Trophy Center wishes our patrons, friends, and colleagues a happy holiday season.

Ceremonial Shell Casing Embedded in Lucite

In a tradition dating back to the European dynastic wars (1688-1748), military funerals honor the memory and service of a deceased veteran with the ceremonial shooting of three volleys.  Representing the words – duty, honor, and country – the three bullets’ spent shell casings are then presented to the recipient’s next of kin.

A proud wife and daughter chose to encapsulate the personal significance of the experience and symbolism of the tradition with three separate Lucite embedment keepsakes from our loyal product partner, Century Manufacturing.

Lucite acrylic is a premium, durable product.  Its versatility allows it to be handcrafted into various shapes and sizes, incorporating many different types of embedded objects.  Multiple items can be embedded and colors can even be added!  To learn more about these unique products and the embedment process, view Century Manufacturing’s brand new website!
